ニューヨークの冬はすごく寒い。手袋なしで外を歩いてると、手の感覚が麻痺して凍ってしまうほど。ここ何日か降り続いた雪も少しづつ溶け始めてきたけれど、朝晩の冷え込みでまだまだそこら中が凍っている。 そんな中、フロッギングモリーのショウが行われたこの会場はマンハッタンの中心、近くにはタイムズ・スクエアやマディソン・スクエア・ガーデンがある場所。開場と同時にあっという間に満員になった会場は、外の寒さなんて忘れてしまう程の熱気がたちこめていた。 前座の二バンドの演奏が終わり、フロッギングモリーのメンバーがステージに登場すると、さらに熱気は増し、真ん中ではとんでもなく大きなモッシュピットが出来て、前方では服や靴や帽子を脱いで投げたりビールをかけあう光景も。あーあ・・・あなたたち帰りどうするの？っていうほど。 アメリカでの彼らのショウは今までに何度か見たことがあるけど、ニューヨークが一番凄いと思った。もうすぐセントパトリックデイということもあって、街が緑色に染まり始めてる今日、ニューヨーカーのそのワクワクっぷりがここで爆発したような気がする。 そして、日本でも今年のフジロック出演が決定している彼ら。苗場でもまた素晴らしい演奏を聴かせてくれることだろう。 comment and photos by sam |
