60年代半ばから終わりに一世を風靡したフラワー・ムーヴメントを象徴する歌にスコット・マッケンジーの「花のサンフランシスコ」がある。あの頃大ヒットしたこの曲の原題は「San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair)」。彼のベスト・アルバム、『San Francisco（サンフランシスコ）』でそれを聞くことができるんだが、ママス・アンド・パパス（正確にはThe Mamas & The Papas）の『California Dreamin'（夢のカルフォルニア）』と並んで、当時のヒット曲を集めたコンピレーションに必ず加えられるのがこの曲だ。 「サンフランシスコに行くんだったら、髪に花を挿すのを忘れないように...」と、そんな出だしで始まるんだが、まるでその歌をそのまま現代に甦らせたようなニュアンスを感じさせるのがラヴ・キャンプと呼ばれるこのちっぽけなフェスティヴァルだ。なにせ、入場料はタダ。が、その代わりに花とキャンドルが求められる。それさえ持ってくれば、飲み物から食べ物までが無料でふるまわれ、アシッド・フォークからサイケデリック、現代音楽からパンクまでさまざまなスタイルの音楽を演奏するミュージシャンのライヴを夜を徹して楽しむことができるのだ。おそらく、どこの世界にもこんなフェスティヴァルなんぞあり得ないだろう。実際、これを始めて体験することになった昨年まで、タダというのは眉唾だと思っていたのだが、その通り。一銭のお金を払うこともなく、いきなり「腹減っているだろう？ メシでも食うかい？」と声をかけられた顛末はそのときのレポートに書いている。  去年は5月末の開催だったんだが、どんな事情か、今年は8月末。ということで、その直前に日本からソウルに飛び、開催日当日に会場のある街までバスで向かうことになったのだが、ここで大きな問題に直面する。なにせ、一緒に行ったソウル在住のライター、shawn共々、韓国語は全く理解できない。しかも、「去年と同じ」と思い込んでいたのだが、会場はその通りでもバスのルートが変更されていたのを全く知らなかったのだ。おかげで、バスで降りた場所は会場から遙か彼方。結局、そこからタクシーで長距離を移動することになり、到着したのが夜の9時を過ぎていたというのが笑える。そんなこともあって、昨年のように昼間の牧歌的な風景をカメラに押さえることはできなかった。また、刻々と時間と共に表情を変えるこのささやかなフェスティヴァルのドキュメントを完全な形でお伝えすることはできないのが申し訳ない。それでも、どこかで60年代終わりに舞い戻ったかのような牧歌的な空気だけは感じ取れるのではないかと思う。  出演者は韓国在住の日本人ミュージシャン、佐藤行衛と主催者、通称ジミヘンさん周辺のバンドが中心だ。なんでも、このフェスティヴァルの起源はジミヘンさんが佐藤行衛の誕生日を祝う形で始めたという話を本人から伺っている。また、ソウルのロック・シーンといえば弘大エリアが中心。というので、あのエリアの住人たちがウイーク・エンドに野外でのライヴを楽しもうとみんなで集まってきたという感じなのだ。そこに、今年は日本から川口雅巳ニュー・ロック・シンジケートなどが加わって大きなパーティをやっているという感覚は昨年とあまり変わらない。とは言っても、どこからこのフェスティヴァルの噂を聞きつけてきたのか、昨年とは違って、参加者数がぐっと増え、西洋系の人たちが目につくようになっていたのが興味深い。とりあえずは、ポスターが貼り付けているだけのような公式サイトも用意されていたし、そのポスターをソウルの弘大エリアでチラッと見かけることはあったんだが、そんなに宣伝もしていないはず。ひょっとすると、shawnが書いた昨年のレポート、"This Is Music"が読まれたのかもしれない。それはそれでいいことなんだろうが、昨年のアットホームな雰囲気が変化し始めているのではないかと気になったのもまた確か。さて、来年はどんなことになるんだろう。一度足を運ぶとやみつきになるこのラヴ・キャンプ。みなさんも一度体験してみればどうでしょう。 |
