ニュー・ヨーク出身のナダ・サーフはUSオルタナティヴ・バンドの中では息の長いバンドである。もうかれこれ15年以上は活動している。この日は今年ロンドンで2度目のライブとなり、前回の2倍規模のヴェニューで開催となった。
彼らの曲はレコーディングされた音を聴く限りにはメロディー重視な感じがする。ところどころでさわやかに重なるコーラスもあり、どこかセンチメンタルな気持ちにさせる。なんとなくまったりと聴いてしまいそうな音楽ではあるのだが、ところがライブでは驚くほどにパワフルなのだ。サポートミュージシャンでキーボードがついてはいるが、3ピース・バンド独特のシンプルさがあり、これがとんでもなくかっこいいのだ。言葉どおり、曲が『生きている』感じがあり、それにコーラスが重なろうものならばほんとに鳥肌もの。 この日は比較的観客がおとなしかったのだが、中盤で演奏された『Inside Of Love』では観客に『モータウンのショウみたいに派手にやりたいんだよね。みんな一緒に踊ってくれる？こうやって．．．』といって右、左、とステップを踏む。そして『この部分では（曲のサビの部分を歌う）．．．こうやって両手を挙げて手を叩いてくれる？クイーンのRadio Ga Gaみたいにね』との事。もちろん観客はちゃんと踊る、手を叩くをやったのだが、これがきっかけに更に盛り上がることに。アンコールの最後の曲、『Blankest Year』では観客がコーラスの部分を叫ぶは（Fワードの部分です/笑）、飛び跳ねる。この曲ではいつもおなじみらしいのだが、サポートバンドのメンバーやローディー達がステージに乱入して踊りだしたり。 いかにライブで音楽を楽しむのが楽しいかを思い知らされる夜だった。そして家に帰って再度彼らの曲をCDで聴きなおしてみたところ、もうまったりと聴くことは出来ない自分がいた。 comment and photos by emi |
