まるで異世界に連れて行かれたんじゃないかと思わせるほどだった。静の中に秘められた悲しみや失意が美しいほどに表現されていた。ギターの音はシャワーのように降り注ぎ、ドラムはまるで心臓の鼓動のよう。ヴォーカリストのデイヴの声は低く、つぶやくように歌う。あまり感情を表に出さないのだが、ひりひりとした内面が伝わってくる。
ロンドンではライブ中に観客が音楽を聴かずにおしゃべりするという事実については有名なのだが、この日は異例だった。誰一人としておしゃべりに花を咲かせていなかったのだ。静かなイントロのある曲でシーンとなり、まるで500人もの観客がここにいるとは思えないほどだった。なんだか自分ひとりしかここにいないような妙な錯覚さえ起きた。 去年ロンドンのインディー・レーベル、Fierce Pandaから『Progress Reform（プログレス・リフォーム）』というミニ・アルバムを発表しているが、今月に初めてフル・レングス・アルバム、『Elegies To Lessons Learnt（エレジーズ・トゥ・レッスンス・ラーント）』をBeggars Banquetから発表したばかり。この日はアルバムからの新曲を何曲か演奏したが、どれもすばらしかった。もちろんショッピングリストに入れた自分である。 comment and photos by emi |
