下北沢モナ・レコーズでのアコースティック・セットの後、西麻布でのクラブイベントブリティッシュ・パビリオンにゲスト出演。最初、このイベントにフランシスがライブをやる、と知った時は特に違和感を感じなかったのだが、いざ会場に到着してみると、地下3階のフロアにガールズ・アンド・ボーイズがUKポップ・ロックに踊る姿とフランシスの音楽がどうにもしっくりこない…。 場違いかなぁ、大丈夫かなぁ、とやや心配していたら、フランシスはいきないビートルズの「抱きしめたい」(I Want To Hold Your Hand)を歌い始めた！これで掴みはオッケー！そのままちょっと強引がながらも、オリジナル、ティーンエイジ・ファンクラブの曲等を演奏してゆき、フロアの人達もフランシスの歌に引き込まれていく。 そして、「みんな、1月から12月まで英語で言える？！」とフロアに問いかけ始めたので、私が「？」と思っていたら、ニール・セダカの「カレンダー・ガール」(Calendar Girl)が！ちゃんと皆にJanuaryからDecemberまで叫ばせていました。エンターティナーだなぁ。 そういえば、2月に来日したBMXバンディッツ (かつてフランシスも在籍。本人クビになったとライブ中何度も言っていたけど) のライブではニール・セダカの「雨に微笑みを」(Laughter in the Rain)をカバーしていたっけ。 こうして新旧取り混ぜた約30分のアコースティック・セットを終了したフランシス。1晩に2ステージ、お疲れさまでした。 photos and comment by izumikuma |
