Showa Genroku Crazy Tangoku @ Shimokitazawa Club 251 (13th Feb '06) feat. Thee 50's High Teens, Salome no Kutibiru, The 50 Kaitens & The Captains
Vintage Valentine - part2 -
Salome no Kutibiru were up next. The band's flutist began playing the first song and was soon joined by a round of funky drumming. Clad in '70s style clothing, the quintet tried to recreate some of the sounds and attitudes of the era. Their soulful, slightly psychedelic pop was driven by the enchanting vocals of their lead singer. Turning in her best rock diva impression, she displayed little emotion while singing and stood completely still and stared straight ahead when not. Half-way through their 35-minute performance she disappeared offstage while her bandmates launched into an upbeat instrumental number. The mood lightened and everyone started to smile and move around a little. After an outfit change the vocalist re-emerged with two heavily made-up female dancers. The ladies go-go danced and struck various dramatic poses as the rest of Salome no Kutibiru played several disco-y tracks.

The crowd went nuts as The 50 Kaitens stormed the stage. Sporting identical haircuts and clothing, the trio looked like a band of triplets. Guitarist Danny made a big display of picking up his guitar and turning to volume up before flooring spectators with an awesome display of insanely energetic garage rock and punk.
The guys were constantly on the move, jumping, posturing, spinning, and running across the stage while ripping through material from their major label debut, 50 Kaitens no Gya. With an emphasis clearly placed on having a great time, it was obvious that the band were having loads of fun playing and basking in the praise of the very entertained audience. Their enjoyment was infectious with the majority of mods, rockers, regular folks, and salarymen in attendance cheering and dancing wildly to the band's infectious sound. Armed with remarkable charisma, showmanship, and talent good things are definitely in store for the 50 Kaitens.
