Vintage Valentine - part1 -

Thee Fifties High Teens
Greeting cards are impersonal, flowers die, and chocolate can give you cavities. With this in mind Thee 50's High Teens, Salome no Kutibiru, The 50 Kaitens, and The Captains banded together to give the perfect Valentine's Day present - a night of stellar music. All four acts turned out a wonderful array of vintage sounds that they modernized by interjecting them with their own unique style and creativity.

Thee Fifties High Teens      Thee 50's High Teens kicked things off with a sexy set of infectious mod and garage rock. The Fukuoka quartet have become a Smashing Mag favourite and after watching them tear through the first few minutes of their show it's easy to see why. Dressed in matching outfits (something that was definitely the theme for the night) the girls turned out several tight cuts from their most recent effort, Punch De Beat. Oozing cool, their bluesy, punk anthems instantly hypnotized the near-capacity Japanese crowd. Bassist Tomo's husky vocals increased the rawness in the band's music. Her and keyboardist Kei continually joined forces to up the intensity on stage with a series of ear-shattering screams.

Thee Fifties High Teens      When not showing off her great set of lungs, the hyper-active Kei kept busy by assaulting her helpless keyboard. She jumped, danced, and felt to her knees while pounding on the instrument. Ending with a cover of "Shout," the act all began to smile as they bounced around. With the audience singing and cheering them on, Kei climbed atop of her keyboard and began stamping her feet on it. Grabbing her mic, she began yelling before pointing at drummer Sue. On cue the whole group jumped in unison, turning out one last blast of wonderful rock n' roll before making their exit.
