Delivering 20 Shots For A Most Delectable Shared Bender
"That's educational!!! That's educational!!!" While screamed out of Black Francis' lungs in "U Mass" from Trompe Le Monde (1993) and taken wholeheartedly by their pupils worldwide, the same could convincingly said of Japan's seasoned MO'SOME TOBENDER. With numerous Fuji Rock Festival lectures included in their 8 year tenure thus far, there surely is no sabbatical coming anytime soon for Kazuhiro Momo (vocals, guitar), Yasunori Take (bass, vocals) and Isamu Fujita (drums, vocals).
Like all diligent and aspiring professionals, excellence is clearly a disciplined habit and a building one at that for this trio as they relentlessly served up 18 straight with a 2 shot topper to leave their pupils within a sold out Quattro as true believers in their tutelage. In keeping the focus wholly on them with no opening acts, MO'SOME simply let their music and their collective dynamics do the happily imbibed schooling. In celebration of their latest discourse Faster! (2005), MO'SOME opened full on and kept it solid throughout so that Bobby Gillespie would wholly approve.
Like SCREAM, there's plenty of attitude and plenty of musicianship to back it up as they coolly plied through their shots to our heads and souls. The sheer euphoria found in "Green & Gold" resonated throughout with their thorough approval cleanly evident on their pleased faces. "Tokyo Heavy" unfurls in its wondrous jauntiness as "Outdoor" instantly creates a sea of fists. The spiraling, drilling "13 Hot Dogs" closes the 18 shot run with a deafening resonance. Determined not to give in to their demanding pupils to the last possible moment, MO'SOME finally capitulate to their calling and delve out 2 more firmly with a now topless, black brief-wearing Take bating pupils to give it up. Heartily they do. To coin classic VH, "Class dismissed!" Well, look for their winter tour to heat matters up firmly here in Japan and then some. Oh yes, global warming ensured here.
