「コントのようなライブ」を決定づけたのはフレンチポップ感を漂わせる"Asleep On A Sunbeam"だった。イントロが始まり、マイク権をすっかり委ねスチュアートが袖に隠れた瞬間に起こったのだ。ん？？笑ってる！！ん？？？トチったな！！！「やめやめ〜」と手を仰ぎながら呆れ顔で出てきたスチュアートから出た言葉は「戻ってくるな！」(会場大爆笑)トチるのもご愛嬌といったところなんだろう。モッシュにはならないのは予想通りのライブだったが、後ろへ行けば行くほど、ゆったりしたスペースでリズムに乗せてダンスする人が多いのは印象的だった。

　グラスゴー、マンチェスター、ブリストル、ロンドン、カーディフ、リヴァプール…挙げればキリがないが、イギリスにおける音楽の地域性は面白い。もちろん、イギリスだけではないことなのだが、私は永らくこのイギリスの地域性のようなものに虜になっている。同時に、この地方ごとのシーンが確立されたイギリスという国への憧れをまた強くさせられるライブだった。

belle and sebastian 　会場を後にし、駅に向かう。行きとは違い強烈な向かい風が吹き付ける。寒い、寒い、ああ…寒い。

　ベルセバと初対面を果たした私は、向かい風でも笑いながら小走りできるほどの楽しさをもらった。やっぱりライブっていいもんだなんてしみじみ思った。案外、第三者の意見なんてあてにならないものなんだろう。音楽も他人に評価してもらうもんじゃないんだろう。自分がいいと思えるものはいい！それでいいのだ。
