Loud Signals and Quick Stops - part1 -

eastern youth
Eastern Youth threw down a mean show of deconstructed emo and punk attitude for the masses. Taking punk/emo to its Japanese conclusion, this power trio twisted typical song structures, turning them inside out for the angry young men.

Hisashi Yoshino on lead guitars and Tomokazu Ninomiya on bass provide a cool and unexpected appearance for the music they make. It's a geek rock aesthetic that proves even the meek can wield big aural guns in the name of conveying their passion. Tomokazu skillfully handles his bass, circling around it and plucking out complex progressions. Hisashi alternately wails against his guitar and then absent-mindedly leads it through off-kilter chords.Atsuya Tamori on drums provides the swelling cymbal heavy back beats that keep it all moving forward.

This packed out show fully vouched for the band's long term Japanese influence.

Typical Eastern Youth songs start with a lullaby strum only to be subverted by direct passage to the song's climax, bashing away at heavy chords before settling into sing along choruses that continually surprise upon their arrival. This way the band shows its soft side, its full power range and its distain for the usual songwriting. And the crowd loved it, joining in, unbidden, to a number of clearly well known numbers.
