TRIBUTE TO ROCKET FROM THE CRYPT @ Shibuya Club Quattro (21st June '03) Hail Hail! Some of Japan's best come together to pay tribute to San Diego's finest. -- part1 --
Since forming in San Diego, California in the summer of 1990, Rocket From The Crypt has been tearing shit up around the world. Notorious for their phenomenal take-no-prisoners live show and scorching records the group quickly rose in popularity. Mixing numerous genres including rock, punk, garage, blues, rockabilly, and ska allowed the band to capture the hearts of passionate critics and music lovers alike. It also allowed them to influence numerous bands from all different styles of music worldwide.
Some of Japan's best bands have chosen to show their appreciation to Rocket From The Crypt by making contributions to the recently released tribute album, A Case of RFTC Junkies. Several of the acts further showed their thanks by performing at the album's release show at Club Quattro in Shibuya. |

Up first was Jet Boys. Playing to a rather tame crowd, the trio admittedly got off to a bit of a slow start. Their lead singer tried to get some momentum going by tossing his flailing body all over the stage and floor, but squashed his efforts by talking for three to five minutes between each song.Half way through their show things turned themselves
around though. A brief appearance on stage by RFTC front man John Reis,
AKA Speedo, garnered loud applause from the audience. Reis told the
group's lead singer that he had flown half way around the world to see
his penis before handling lead vocal duties for a killer version of the
group's cover of RFTC's "Lipstick".

After Reis left the stage the band seemed to be much more focused.
Knocking over mic stands as they kicked out their tight punk anthems they started to get geared up for their big finale. Not wanting to disappoint Reis, just prior to their last song, the group's guitarist / lead singer stripped down to his underwear, picked up a pair of nunchucks and started swinging them wildly. After a minute or so, he disappeared offstage only to return a few seconds later completely naked and holding a giant rutabaga. He put the vegetable between his legs and did a few pelvic thrusts for the crowd before picking up his guitar and playing it with the rutabaga. Showering the crowd below with flying bits of vegetable, he jumped up and down while spitting out his lyrics to the night's final song. Deservedly receiving a tremendous applause, I can easily say that Jet Boys finale was one of the most bizarre and entertaining things I've ever witnessed. It's definitely one of those things that has to be seen to be truly appreciated. -->Part2
