Banda Bassotti @ Kawasaki Club Citta (12th May '03)featuring Doberman, Oi Skall Mates & Rude Bones part1
| The theme of tonight's gig was definitely about a) throwing one hell of a party and b) trying to see just how many people could be squeezed onto the stage at once. With 3 of the 4 acts on this evening's bill having close to ten members present while playing at times it looked like the massive Club Citta stage wasn't going to be enough to contain the party.
|
| I arrived at the venue just as Doberman was leaving the stage. Looking at the hundreds of perspiring teenagers pouring out of the main hall grinning from ear to ear, it was pretty safe to say the nine piece band played an enjoyable set.

After a brief intermission that allowed that kids to rehydrate themselves and cool down, Oi-Skall Mates took to the stage or, more specifically took over the stage. As the eleven folks in the band began to file out while their entrance music played over the sound system, the audience became one giant sea of dancing bodies. When they finally got around to picking up their respective instruments the kids got even crazier, hoisting themselves up on railings to scream lyrics and pump their fists not at the band, but to their peers. The group, not wanting to be left out of the fun did their best to help these energetic kids work everyone on the floor into a frenzy. Playing a short and tight twenty-five minute set, the band was in top form as they performed their brand of laid back ska. Bouncing all over the stage, they were all smiles and seemed to be enjoying the party environment as much as everyone else.
|
| Hoping to keep things moving, Rude Bones were up next. Looking sharply dressed in their matching bowling shirts they proceeded to turn in strong half hour set which saw them playing a more fast paced harder brand of ska than their predecessors. Adding some punk to the mix as well, the sextet turned in a great set that had the crowd jumping up and down. The highlight of their show was a chilled out version of the Lion King's "Hakuna Mata" that saw the audience skanking and singing along to the Disney classic. report by shawn photo by hanasan
