| In keeping true to their "Footprints" newsletter mission statement, these five dear friends whose love of the mountains first brought them together 10 years ago did everything possible to back up their dedication in making this world a better place to dance, sing and live as they gave, received and shared all the love necessary that would be found within any act of the orginal Woodstock lineup or any legendary Dead or Phish show for that matter. Showing their true commitment to both each other and to the beauty to be found within and created in music, each seemed to almost instinctively know when and how to interplay, when to fly solo or when to just be in the waiting. This rare shared allowance clearly resonated throughout this evening's performance as it did in their last year's performances at Fuji Rock Festival with the similar result being an unspoken easiness and tranquility found within their s! ets and there relationship to one another. Whether it was Michael or Billy or Kyle or Keith handling vocal duties, it was understood that it would all be good as long as it felt right and it did no matter whomever led the charge. |
![]() ![]() ![]() With two full sets and two encores performed to satisfy the most voracious appetites for Cheese, this quintet shall undoubtedly be returning soon again to Japan to further satisfy its ever growing need and desire for consumption. Until that time, one will just have to be satisfied with the memory of tonight's performance and that's not so bad. Of course, your favorite record shop isn't so far away. |
With their neverending goal to be in complete control of their own destiny, the Cheese certainly made a strong indictment that they are well on track to making that an ongoing reality as they had all inside Shibuya-AX in sweet harmony alongside them as they played unforcefully and unselfishly for hours this final night in Tokyo. In being the nature of a jam band, surprises and new found discoveries abound either straight in the face and around the corner and of course are encouraged. Yet sometimes the tables are turned and the bands themselves deliver a sweet surprise as the Cheese did as they restarted their engines in the second set with their rendition of "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" from Michael Jackson's 1979 Quincy Jones produced 'Off The Wall' album. Easily hitting those high notes as Michael once did, drummer/percussionist Travis still kept the beat solid as the others enjoyed the funk as did the&nbs! p;Cheese faithful as this unexpected gem went over as if it was playing in a New York City discoteque in this song's heyday.
