I guess, to general public, the appearance of the guys of these red rockers, Banda Bassotti, might not be pleasant as skinhead in MA-1 jacket with Dotor Martin boots and a pair of army camouflaged trousers is a typical style of a neo fascist in Europe. If you do not know about the sense of the skinheads in Italy, coming to Banda Bassotti's show gives you a thrilling moment when you get to the venue as there are hundreds of neo-fascist-like skinheads everywhere. |
 You may not feel that much about this in Firenze as the venue was a usual & commercial one, but here in Bologna, the rebels of Banda Bassotti are playing at a "Centro Social", a liberated area, and a ticket of the gig is far lower than usual so that you would see more of real Banda Bassotti fans of real working class. Check the skinheads right in front of the stage and you could see them like a street gangs or bloody fascist, but I have to emphasize that they are neither of those. These skinheads are all part of this alternative movement and comrades of Banda Bassotti and it is amazing to see those hyper macho looking skinheads singing the rebel songs deal loud together with the boys on stage. Here they are singing about revolution and liberation or crying for independence of Basque or Palestine or denouncing injustice of globalization. Well, I must confess, I still find this something strange somewhere though... |

 I guess the Clash was the biggest influence of Banda Bassotti and it really was a shame that they could not work with Joe Strummer in their latest album, "Asi Es Mi VIDA", a collection of rebel songs of the world. If there were a bit more time, Joe might have been in this project singing with Banda Bassotti... Another important influence musically is ska and the horn section is a key to give rich and powerful touch on Banda Bassotti's music. With having strong ska vibe with some kind of Italian flavor and punk energy well woven in the sound, the appearance of the trio along with ever wild Picio gave definitive image of Banda Bassotti on stage.  |
