There were 4 guys playing on a surprisingly tiny corner of an incrediblly small & smoky venue in Shibuya which was completely packed like a rush hour train in Yamanote Line... There is neither table nor chair nor snobby garsons nor delicious but expensive cuisine there like Ble Note, a well established "so-called" jazz club. But here in this small spot in one of the million corners of Shibuya, there was hot, cool and stomy jazz by four wild cats like used to be happening in a small club somewhere deep in towns of African American in the US. Jazz was born there and grown up with tough heart and hot soul. |

Far from the home of jazz and far from the time of Bop or Be-Bop or Cool, but sharing heart and soul with those original cool cats, this 4 piece unit called Sleek Walker, was out of sleep with open eays and ears, playing jazz of "the time". Having a touch of various styles such as drum'n'bass been born in clubland, still the lads were nore more than anything but a damn good jazz musician in traditional sense with real body and soul. The voice of the each musician comes out of those music instruments and comes into us either closing or opening up our eyes right in front of them playing at that night. What a night! Or I should say what a lovely morning I had on the way back... |
