Batting second this fine night of d.i.y. rock 'n' roll was Wakusei, who perhaps have one of the best drummers period in punk rock in Tomomi Hirata as she simply tore-up the stage with her drum fills, rolls, and high-hat work, showcasing her jazzy-punk rock style which would have to be said to be a combination of Keith Moon, Janet Weiss of Sleater-Kinney, and Mitch Mitchell of the Experience.![]() reprot by michael |
![]() Wakusei's frontman Kenji distributed his guitar work that would be impressively best described as a blend between Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine and Billy Zoom of X, topped of course by his maniacal vocals of attitude bringing one back to the lik! es of David Johansen in his New York Dolls days. Decadent, resonating, dirty, Wakusei's music went deep into our bones, adding much fuel to this ever growing sonic bonfire. In watching the them with Al and Victor of the Parkinsons, we agreed about the high quality of this night in stereo by saying with a huge smile,"Two for two." |
As she opened with a menacing tribal beat that was complimented by the sizzling, searing haunting heat of vocalist/guitarist Kenji Kishida, omnipresent walking and meandering bass lines from Yoshimi Shimizu circa Peter Hook in his Joy Division days were laid out.![]() photo by saya38 |
