Part3

The Jeevas

From start to finish, THE JEEVAS did all rock 'n' roll elders right as Crispian, Andy, and Dan beautifully and powerfully demonstrated the range of it all through each of their songs without a single falter or chip in this shiny armor of sound as we all willingly succumbed to their handiwork. Opening with the single "One Louder," Crispian immediately seized our attention with his immense vocal range and their collective play at their intricately laid, but simply executed music as we were hooked with no hope of getting off this line. Simply put, these three let their music and performance do all the talking and impressing. Yet it was not just the music doing the impressing and adding to the complete satisfaction of this night as a bit of humor added to the fun. For example, Crispian dedicated one song to all those who came here tonight by bicycle which perhaps is a Tokyo-specific joke, but brilliant nevertheless.

Yet, this was not only the Crispian Mills show as Andy and Dan balanced it all out , adding their own personality and flair. Dan, showing that bassist don't always stay stationary, sidestepped across the stage at one point and threw his bass around as an arena rock star as he smiled brightly. Meanwhile, a tanktop wearing Andy egged on his bandmates as he playfully pounded away with an omnipresent smile. Perhaps as happy as the THE WHO's Keith Moon? Perhaps indeed and for good reason.

But bringing it all back to the music this night, THE JEEVAS's collective punch was felt and gladly absorbed. Whether it was the bluesy beauty of "What Is It For?" or the psychedelic romp of "Edge Of The World" or the call to arms, anthemic "Once Upon A Time In America," it was complete sensory satisfaction. Of course, as expected, a KULA SHAKER classic was included in the 3 song encore, that being none other than the hit that launched them into all universes and ultimately made THE JEEVAS possible, the bass driven race of "Hey Dude" as well as storming cover of Jimi's "Fire." Yet, like all classics, THE JEEVAS music and their nourishing lives this night as others shall last and last as all do that are worthy. And I'd have to say "Once Upon A Time In America" is the one from their '1, 2, 3, 4' album. But hey, you be the judge yourselves.>
