Primal Scream

With 30 minutes past and a plethora of American blues teasing us in the background, you knew they were soon coming on as the lyrics from "Pink Cadillac" filled the air,"And I really get her when I take out my big 10 inch." Boom! The music suddenly dies and Bobby and company sauntered onstage with their well-found confidence and waves to the brimming Zepp Tokyo as all scream in pure delight as it's time for our medication. Oh, and how true indeed in the ensuing 19 cut set, spanning 2 encores and surprises.

With high hats crashing leading the way, the premiere psychedelic, rockin' head trip on the planet this night was started with "Accelerator " into one of their latest "Miss Lucifer." Both echoed dilligently with mad enthusiasm, Bobby, Kevin, Darrin, Andrew, Mani, Robert, and Martin launched off this pad in Odaiba, Tokyo and never looked back nor wavered in their discography sprawling set which pulled most from its latest 'Evil Heat' and their prior FUJI ROCK appearance era 'XTRMNTR.' But no worries, 'Screamadelica' and other albums were not to be denied this night for with Bobby's trademark casual delivery of lyrics about decadence and debauchery, his mates completed their unique multi-genre wall of sound to the utmost satisfaction to all present in all possible ways.

"Rise" showcased a key aspect of SCREAM's strength, attitude and confidence. As Mani walked up the scales on his bass, he happily led the rest as Bobby delivered us to where we wanted to be with its marching beauty. The level of assured satisfaction from their sexual psychedelic blues headrock flowing from all points to see, hear, feel and taste. Their childhood heroes and influences like THE WHO could only be elated with their execution. This could further be said by the uptempo beauty of "Shoot speed/ Kill light" which had us all in full submission to our Messiah's call. Sure, a service was in progress that happened to be on Sunday too!

Downshifting gears into our bowells, Bobby led us into the world of "Kowalski." It's opening itself is telling of perhaps SCREAM themselves:"The question is not when he's going to stop, but who is going to stop him?"

Primal Scream

"Autobahn 66" proved to be a surprise crowd-pleaser from its latest release as it motored along cleanly and led into "Kill all hippies.". The latest addition to PRIMAL's arsenal of sound, its success lies in perhaps its reminding glimpse of sunny summertime shimmerings with one's hair flowing as our minds expanded. Self-explanatory from the title really as is the genius of "Kill all hippies." But like all high-performance machines, SCREAM know how and when to shift gears for maximum effect.
