Boom Boom Satelites

Boom Boom Satelites
For most, seeing PRIMAL SCREAM alone is one of pure ecstasy in itself. However, this weekend had the bicultural pairing between the fine talents and delivery of Japan's ever-emerging BOOM BOOM SATELLITES alongside one of the arguably best live bands in the world period. If there were any doubts about this union, they were duly squashed as this night progressed and evolved to satisfy the lot.

Keeping up with their building reputation as gifted melodic noise-generators, BBS's Masayuki Nakano and Michiyuki Kawashima with the addition of a drummer, pumped out music defying their numbers. Only three crafted such a complete sonic tapestry? Yes indeed. As they sprawled their talents tightly in their 40 minute set, BBS chose wisely to focus on their present and future endeavors from this year's release 'Photon.' In doing so, they echoed a coolness and attitude that was to be further expanded upon by Bobby Gillespie and company when they would take the stage shortly after.

In seeing BBS numerous times, this was by far the best as they clearly came into their own, meshing in elements of JESUS & MARY CHAIN, NIN, PINK FLOYD alongside their techno edge and affection for their namesake band. In short, making for a near perfect appetizer for PRIMAL SCREAM. In the slippery slope of being an opening act for such a massive act as such, BBS smartly kept to their roots, their strengths whilst promoting their latest release which is one of this year's best nocturnal trips which is proof positive for their inclusion with NORMAN COOK's Kick&Spin World Cup Tour earlier this year.

Crossing boundaries of genres and tempos, BBS focused their fuel to fire a ever-increasing flame brightly in their building set. Their orgasmic epiphonic moment coming from the solar sailing latin-infused final cut that would have duly pleased Mambo legend PETE ESCOVEDO as well as electronic guru BRIAN ENO. As they strolled offstage and slight smile flashed across their faces as they knew it was all good and full steam ahead for a momentous night of PRIMAL SCREAM.
