日暮れが近い午後8時、メイン・ステージには木の枝を持った人達が続々と集まってきた。ブリティッシュ・シー・パワーといえばステージが緑で飾られる。ということは、このザ・グリーン・マン・フェスティヴァルにぴったりだ。そうは言っても、会場のあちこちにあるからといって枝と折って来て良いものだろうか、などと思いつつ。ライブそのものは割りを淡々と進んで行き、ステージも高いことだし、今回はメンバー誰も客席に飛び込まないのかしら、などと思いつつ眺めていたら、突如ギターのマーティンが飛び降り客席にダイブ！そして、ステージにちゃんと上ったと思ったらセットにまでよじ登って行って、やんややんやの大盛り上がりとなった。
ところで、ブリティッシュ・シー・パワーは1934年に製作されたドキュメンタリー映画「マン・オブ・アラン」のサウンド・トラックを製作している。英国内の映画祭で、映画に併せて演奏したことがあるらしいが、それと同じく、深夜のシネマテントで、この映画の上映・演奏が行われた。 アニマル・コレクティブの撮影を終えた私は、シネマ・テントへ行こうか迷ったが（何せ深夜、眠たい)少しだけ様子を見に、と行ってみたら入口には長蛇の列が出来ており、慌ててその列に並びシネマ・テントに入る。実際、映画が始まった後は入場制限となっていた。映画に併せて演奏するブリティッシュ・シー・パワーの音楽は突き刺すようなサウンドと流麗なメロディが重なり合い、なんともこちらの感情に迫ってくる。そして、演奏している彼らを見ていたら、ジム・ジャームッシュの映画「デッドマン」のサウンド・トラックを映画を観ながら作ったというニール・ヤングを思い出した。この場にいられる自分はなんてラッキーなんだろう、と思わせてくれるひと時だった。 --> Peggy Sue photos and comment by izumikuma |
