 アイ・ワズ・ア・キングはノルウェー出身のサイケデリック・インディー・バンド。60年代の音楽の影響がかなりある感じである。音的には結構レトロな感じではあるが、90年代にクリエーション・レーベルからリリースしていそうな、そんなサイケで微妙にシューゲイザーなギターポップな音楽である。

 UKでは某大手メディアが絶賛したらしいが、まだブレイク前ということで、この日は満員御礼とまではいかず。ステージ前にはぽっかりと空間ができていて、観客は遠巻きに見ているだけ。ステージ上の彼らも派手なアクションはせず、まるでシューゲイザーのようにうつむいて演奏をしている。思ったよりも地味なライブではあったが、演奏はかなりしっかりしていてなかなか良い。

 個人的な意見ではあるが、この系統の音楽も、気取らずに、逆に少々地味な感じがするライブ形式も実は結構好きである。出来ればぎっしりと観客で埋まったヴェニュー内で大爆音で見れたらこれは酔えるな、と思った。観客の反応はいまいちだったが、私は前もって彼らのアルバムをしっかりと聴いてから見に行ったほど、私的にはちょっと期待していたバンドではあった。ライブでがっかりさせなかったということで、自分的には合格。これからも追って行きたいと思ったアーティストである。
