一緒にグラストに行った友人によると、「一発で70年代に引き戻された感じだよなぁ」というんだが、それ以前に、ひょっとして、ニール・ダイアモンドを含めてバンドの連中がみんな、あの時代のままなのではないんだろうかと思ったのが最初だった。バック・ヴォーカルの女性達もドラマーもギターもベースも、どのメンバーを見ても、はっきり言ってしまえば、みなさん、かなりのご年配。ひょっとしてずうっと一緒にやってきた仲間がそのままここにいるのではないかと思えたほどなんだが、なにやらそれが正しいようだ。 おそらく、日本では... とはいっても、かなりの昔にさかのぼるんだろうが、ニール・ダイアモンドといえば、「カモメのジョナサン」のサントラで有名なはず。とはいっても、今の洋楽ファンにはほとんど知られていないように思える。ところが、アメリカやイギリスといった英語圏では超大物のひとりで、そのあたりの感覚は我々にはわからないなぁというのが正直な印象。自分も知っているのは「スイート・キャロライン」や「ソング・サング・ブルー」といった初期の大ヒット曲のみで、この会場で驚かされたのは、今も彼がとっても人気があるアーティストであることと、前述のようにミュージシャン達の年齢層の高さぐらい。とはいいながら、こういったアーティストが見られるのが、またグラストの魅力でもあるんだろうなぁとは思うのです。 -->Eddy Grant comment and photos by hanasan |
