はじめに断りを入れておくが、筆者はイギー・ポップの音楽を良く知らない。個人的に好きでも無い。今回のグラストが彼らのライヴ初体験である。よって、何時の時代の何という曲が、なんていう視点からレポートを記す事は出来ないので、観たまんまの初心者の観点からの感想文にしか見えないことをご了承頂く。だって、ロック・ストック...という映画のサントラにある"アイ・ワナ・ビィ・ユア・ドッグ"と、彼のソロ作で同じく映画のトレインスポッティングに入っている"ラスト・フォー・ライフ"しか知らんのだから。筋金入りファンが読んだら今すぐにでも生卵をぶつけたい思いであろう。読者のお便りよりもひどい。と、まあ牽制した上でいざ。でも、まあ一言でいってめちゃくちゃ楽しかった。というか、はっちゃめちゃだった。恐らく既に色々なメディアで語られているだろうが、何しろ観客のステージ・インヴェイジョンが起こり、演奏を中断させてしまったのだから。仕掛人は紛れも無い、イギー、その人である。
お馴染み、上半身裸にスリム・ジーンズで現われたイギーだが、ステージライトとフォトグラファーの焚くフラッシュの閃光でまともに顔が見えない。しかも、縦横無尽にステージを暴れ回り、歌声がこちらに向けられた彼のお尻の側から聴こえてくる始末。けれども、おっさん連のザ・ストゥージズは渋く、且つ豪快にパンク音をばしばし鳴らし続けるし、イギーの歌もしっかり聴こえて来る。思ったよりノイズまみれじゃない楽曲で、何を歌っているかが明確に聴こえてくるのが良かった。加えて、イギーの親爺とは思えぬ軽快な動き。大半が男の群衆で拳突き上げ、イギー・コールが絶え間なく起こる。楽しんでるかい、なんて時折イギーが煽るお陰でそれがどんどん膨らんでいく。前述した観客のステージ乱入も、イギーが客席にダイヴし、観客と絡まり一緒に歌おうとしたことがきっかけで、セキュリティが一斉に彼を警護しに飛んでいった隙を突いて始まり、一人上がり、二人上がり、気がついたらステージ上は観客でいっぱいになっていた。イギーは、といえばフォト・ピットでファンにもみくちゃにされ顔中泥まみれのまま身動き取れなくなっている。本人ですらちょっと予期しなかったであろうこの大事態に一瞬見せたうろたえた表情がとてつもなく笑えた。
 もう十分だぜ、みんな元に戻れ、と彼が何とか促したものの、興奮度最高潮に達した観客が大人しく引き下がる気配はなかなか無い。セキュリティが這々の体で観客を追い払い、一旦中断したステージにメンバーが再び現われ、アンコールで二回目の"アイ・ワナ・ビィ・ユア・ドッグ"が歌われるまで、これぞ、パンクなライヴというべきとんでもないクレイジィな展開であった。もう、いちいちどの曲が良かっただなんて覚えていないが、この光景を目にした事はこれからも決して忘れないだろう。そして、これこそが真のフェスティヴァルの醍醐味というものであろうし、それを見事にやってのけたイギー・ポップという人はとんでもない男である。まさに、マン・オヴ・ザ・ナイト。
