初日から白熱のパフォーマンスの連続で人々の興奮度は上昇しっぱなしだというのに、一夜明けた二日目の朝もふてぶていしい黒雲から落ちる雨が止む気配は全く無い。イギリスで生活し続けていればこんな風に雨ばっかりの天気にだって慣れっこになるとはいえ、何故ゆえこんな年に一度しかないフェスティバルに来てまで雨風にいたぶられなきゃならんのか。時折見せる晴れ間にすら、けっ、どうせまたすぐ降るんだろがあ、と突っ張り盛りの中坊よろしく心は卑屈になるばかりである。 さて、そんなこちらのささくれた表情に飛び込んで来たのが、ぎんぎらぎんにさりげあり過ぎる鱗柄のキャットスーツ。その中身はシーエスエスのヴォーカル、ラヴフォックスその人だ。こんなに太ってたっけか、と思わせるほど妙にもこもこしていたが、それもそのはず、3曲目を歌った辺りで更に脱ぎ出し、その下にあった黄色に星模様のキャット・スーツを重ね着していたのである。もう、お馴染みの彼女のこの姿だが、寒風に晒されていた我が身としては、さぞかし温かかったことであろう、と妙に羨ましくさえあった次第。聴く度に安定感と向上を増しているバンドの演奏と、ラヴフォックスの気合いの入った観客の煽りに刺激され、周囲ではどんどん楽しく体を揺らし、彼らのダンス・チューンに身をくねらせる姿が目立っていた。ラヴフォックスが試みた2回のステージ・ダイヴも頑強なセキュリティに支えられる形でほぼ人の波に溶け込めずじまい。警備上と安全性を考えた上での厳重な体制とはいえ、彼女が人波の中に浮かぶ姿はいつのギグでも面白いので、ここのところがちと物足りなかった気がする。ともあれ、ダーリンが後に控えるクラクソンズに繋げる今のホットなニュー・レイヴ・カルチャーを代表して、キッチュでユニークなパフォーマンスを見せたことは確かだ。 |
