この日はフェスティバルの一環として、小規模ヴェニューのプレッシャー・ポイントにてxfmのX-Posureという番組が主催のイベントをやっていた。xfmは元はロンドンのローカルFM局だったのだが、近年になってマンチェスターとスコットランドでも放送が始まり、次はウェールズにも進出予定のある人気の放送局。コマーシャルなポップ・アイドルの音楽は一切かけないという方針の元に設立されたFM局であり、X-Posureはその中でも一番斬新で新しい音楽を積極的にかける番組であり、その番組のDJをやっているのがxfmでもトップDJであるJohn Kennedy（ジョン・ケネディー）。そのジョンはアイライクトレインズの大ファンでもあり、ジョン自らがステージにあがってバンドの紹介をしていた。
私自身アイライクトレインズは気に入っているバンドではあるのだが、今まで一度もライブを見る機会がなかった。今回初めて見たのだが 、背筋がぞくっとするものを感じた。ジョンの司会には大歓声を上げる観客なのだが、始まったとたんに場内一同の一瞬の沈黙を感じた。彼らは失意や残虐的な事実を、冷たくも美しい音楽で物語る。それの生演奏は、まさに鳥肌ものだった。今回のフェスティバルで見たバンドの中では一番強いインパクトを感じるライブであった。 残念ながら、次に別のヴェニューで撮影を予定をしていたバンドの時間がすぐだったので、15分ほどしか見ていられなかった。この次は絶対最後まで見たいと、恐ろしく後ろ髪を引かれつつ、プレッシャー・ポイントを後にした。 -->Art Brut comment and photos by emi |
