きっかけは今年2月のGHOST取材だった。おそらく、日本で唯一、パティ・スミスと比較されるべきシンガー・アンド・ソングライターと言ってもいいだろう、吉原千晶を中心にしたこのユニットが韓国で演奏するというので、彼らとの同行取材を敢行。それに端を発して今回のK-Rock特集が生まれている。 ちなみに、このバンドでベースを担当しているのがMagの写真家でもあるnachi。彼女の写真は今特集の番外編 cocore in Tokyo: photo erportでも楽しめるし、2月の取材でも、演奏を終えた直後に同じcocoreを撮影している。こちらがそのときの様子なんだが、2日間にわたって繰り広げたれたこの時のライヴに登場した韓国の4バンドに、編集長、hanasanとnachiがはまってしまったというのがことの起こりだった。 おそらく、The Clashの直系と言ってもいいだろう、パンクやレゲエの要素を抱えたGhettobombsも面白かったし、エキセントリックなサウンドとヴォイスが魅力のNastyonaもBjorkからKate Bush、あるいは、フィオナ・アップルにも通じる才能を見せつけてくれた。昨年のフジ・ロックで体験している人もいるかもしれないが、ひょうきんな表情を持つヴォーカルがパワフルに、そして、ストレートにロックするSuger Donutも素晴らしかった。 が、なんと言っても筆頭は韓国のインディ・シーンの牽引車として10年に及ぶ活動歴を持つcocore。ニルヴァーナあたりの影響の下に動き出したらしいのだが、60年代終わりのサイケデリックなタッチやストーン・ローゼズにも通じる波長をも感じさせる彼らはどこかで日本のロックを決定するほどの影響力を持つことになったはっぴぃえんどにも接点を感じさせる実にユニークな存在だ。 そんなバンドを生み出してきている韓国のインディ・シーンがどんな動きを見せているんだろうか... 隣の国のことなのになんにも知らないっていうのもやっぱよくないなぁと焼き肉よりもロックを目指してソウルに飛んだのは6月12日。cocoreのライヴをチェックし、シーンを代表するバンドの数々や関係者にインタヴューを行っている。おそらくは、まだまだ好事家にしか知られていないのが韓国のインディ・シーンだろう。が、韓国にしかあり得ない微妙なオーラを放ちながら、動き続けるバンドの数々を少しでも紹介してみようと思う。 なお、今回の取材は撮影をhanasanが、インタヴューはmagの若手、radが担当。ということで、rad編の始まりです。 --> rad編 : はじめに |
