"Take this soul... Stranded in some skin and bones... Take this soul and make it sing. Sing." While many may not register punk ethos with U2, their raw, communal heart bleeds and breeds throughout it. Resplendently exemplified by Lagwagon, the venerable Californian punk quintet sprung in 1990, their immediate, passionately fueled aptly titled 'Resolve' duly anchors you in good company.

Giving themselves and the greater Lag family plenty of courage to face another day after the life-altering loss of original drummer Derrick Plourde, Joey Cape (vocals), Chris Flippin (guitar), Chris Rest (guitar), Jesse Buglione (bass) and Dave Raun (drums) beautifully crank full-bore throughout this wonderful walloping under 40 affair. The high stepping relentless assaulter "Heartbreaking Music" breaks open the defiant anger from loss to the chugging, crunching creative start to finish, multi-layer "Automatic" that tenderly streams into the vulnerably, yet stridently strong blossoming "Resolve." Turning loss into gain, momentum stays strong in the bass-buttoner, striking "Virus" with its echoed vocals awash over guitars. "Runs In The Family" echoes fair warnings in its accelerations and braking as "The Contortionist" pummels in its opening between Raun, Rest and Flippin, ensuring dives and pits in gleeful abandon as the 2-part tenderly Cape-led "Sad Astronaut" bleeds of pain and enduring love. Of course, these are dudes from the legendary seaside land of I.V. and aptly "Rager" gives notice there in Raun's opening barrage followed by Buglione's bouncing bass as Plourde's imprint is duly celebrated. Retributions of failed communications abound in "The Worst" while "Creepy" muscles and fights about in its haunting, hopes unrealized that continue in the rolling snare-filled farewell of "Infectious.".

Lagwagon fittingly put the whip cream and cherry on top in the unabashedly intimate "Day Of New." Yeah, they're making it happen. Derrick's and our souls are singing and to 11.
