"I'll never let you get to me... Survival is my victory. Time for celebration, overcome with a sense of direction." Powerful words from Jaz in Killing Joke's self-titled 2003 release which fittingly encapsulates Zebrahead in 2006. With 2004's dramatic departure of original vocalist/guitarist Justin Mauriello, Matty Lewis' (vocals/guitar) full-frontal jump into the ZH camp clearly announced a fresh chapter for Ali Tabatabaee (vocals), Greg Bergdorf (guitar), Ben Osmundson (bass) and Ed Udhus (drums) evident in 'Broadcast To The World.'
The title track urgently commences the new charge, seamlessly blending into the racing flexing, bass-buttoned "Rated 'U' For Ugly" with balanced exchanges between Matty and Ali. "Anthem" transitions within its rock, pop and ska blend effortlessly while cruncher "Enemy" is a departure, markedly made in the keyboard coated, swinger "Back To Normal." "Postcards From Hell," like "Lobotomy For Dummies" strike familiarly, awash in Ali's punchy vocals and Matty's coasting resonant chorus as Gregg threads it together to Ed and Ben's rhythm approval. The unusual sparse of "Karma Flavored Whisky" punctuates in between while poppy, skipping follower "Here's To You" bounces about into the more compact "Wake Me Up." "Your New Boyfriend Wears Girl Pants" stretches out and questions as Zebrahead find themselves channeling their new equation. Bonus track "Riot Girl" rumbles unabatedly as a band just starting while "Down In Flames" muscles in their unbridled, collective confidence as Zebrahead unfurl upon open seas of change.
