buttonCD review : Demos,1993-1996 (06/07/15) : reviewed by rod

By far one of my favorite bands of all time, acid bath were a truly original band known for their drug induced lyrics, serial killer produced album artwork and Dax Riggs' amazing vocals. The band died an untimely death the day bassist Audie Pitre was killed in a car accident marking the end of some of the most twisted metal music ever made. with releases such as this one, demos, they are usually very disappointing for even the hardcore fans of the band because demos tend to show the weakness of the bands material due to poor production and /or the fact the material was still in the early stages and not nearly as polished as the end result that was released. Not with this cd however. the production and overall strength of the material is so good that i honestly can't say i like the released version any better than the demo versions. While there are obvious production differences (I can't say improvements) and small musical differences, these demo versions are amazingly close to the released versions. Perhaps even better in some ways because the production of the "Kite String Pops" material isn't produced with as much of the effects allowing the backing vocals of Sammy Duet and Pitre to be heard along with a more crunchy sounding guitar and Pitre's bass.

Dax Riggs' vocals are as solid as ever and it's easy to understand how this band was able to land a record deal based on these demos. How this band never got the worldwide exposure it deserved is beyond me but releases like this one should go along way to impress those unfamiliar with Acid Bath and their Louisiana metal sound.
