Hot damn, Daymare Records have developed a great roster. The Japanese label has made stellar releases from the likes of Isis, Chore, Pelican, Dalek, Fantomas, and Cave In available domestically. The addition of These Arms Are Snakes' Oxeneers Or The Lion Sleeps When Its Antelope Go Home only helps to strengthen their already stacked catalogue.

Any band that titles their debut EP This Is Meant To Hurt You obviously means business. Comprised of past members of Botch and Kill Sadie, the Seattle quartet build upon the aggressive post-hardcore stylings presented on their EP and definitely up the ante with Oxeneers. While the music won't necessarily cause you any harm, it'll definitely knock you on your ass with its innovativeness, raw energy, and passion.

Not wanting to limit themselves, TAAS go to great lengths to add as many diverse musical elements to their explosive arsenal as possible. Opener "The Shit Sisters" makes great use of noise, math rock guitar licks, pulsating drums, and some prog-inspired breakdowns to deliver a fantastic start to the album. The eight minute long "Gadget Arms" utilizes a ton of feedback and spacey keyboards to create a wonderfully dark track that travels in several riveting directions before fading into the more rock-oriented "Greetings from the Great North Woods."

Extremely dense, Oxeneers can't be fully grasped with just a listen or two. With countless sonic layers to wade through you can be certain that you'll be discovering new parts of songs for months to come. Fans of acts such as the Blood Brothers and the Mars Volta will definitely enjoy what TAAS are trying to accomplish.

As an added bonus Daymare have tagged This Is Meant To Hurt You onto the end of Oxeneers, providing increased insight into where TAAS have been, are right now, and possibly what exciting musical paths they'll travel in the future.
