"And I wonder. Still I wonder. Who'll stop the rain?" Will this question ever go away? Well, CCR long ago begged this question amidst the Vietnam quagmire of course, but it seems that seven of Boston's finest, veterans Dropkick Murphy's, have a timely answer in conjunction with the ongoing debilitations and frustrations in Iraq within their most focused, fiery release completed, the aptly titled 'The Warrior's Code.'
Dedicated to one of their best friends Steve "Chickenman" Riley (who had died in a motorcycle accident) as well as Laura Devine, Johnny Cunningham and a fallen American soldier Andrew Farrer(a huge DKM fan who had shared his love of them with his family and had DKM at his funeral), the obvious deep, moving and lasting motivations for this project burn brightly track to track, showing that there truly are silver linings to otherwise painful realities that must be found and furthered no matter what.
Once again tapping into their infectious "all for one, one for all" modus operandi as well as stepping it up a notch and then some, DKM's septet of Al Barr (lead vocals), James Lynch (vocals, guitar), Scruffy Wallace (bagpipies), Matt Kelly (vocals, drums), Tim Brennan (mandolin), Ken Casey (vocals, bass) and Marc Orrell (vocals, guitar) show just how strong their brotherhood is in promoting a foundation for the greater ones to be found all around us to keep on fighting the good fight. Opener "Your Spirits Alive" slaps and stings relentlessly to remind you of your strength within that simply cannot be compromised as it rolls into the title track that furthers emboldens your resolve, both ensuring a boisterous, unifying chorus live and a racing optimism wherever. "Captain Kelly's Kitchen" is a raucous romp, part Pogues, part Wonderstuff, but ALL DKM in its own showing the spirit shared between all three. "Sunshine Highway" clears all dark, discouraging skies for the light as the "Wicked Sensitive Crew" taps into a the greater punk brotherhood started by The Ramones. "Citizen C.I.A." is a succint, scathing indictment wholly approved by Jello Biafra surely that then comes to the doorstep to a traditional tale of salute "The Green Fields Of France." "Take It And Run" is a running, yet at the same time standing tall track that's libel to ensure you get a speeding ticket if driving as DKM as you lose yourself in its fervor as DKM clearly know how to mobilize you to a better place.
True beyond their words found in all caps and bold on their website, DKM's 'Warrior's Code' quintessentially exemplifies with an exclamation mark that indeed the power of your example is far greater than what you say. Expect their unwavering, resplendent and resilient code of honor to be added to the native Bushido and celebrated in full with spirits of all kinds as the rain has stopped and the sunshine is upon us now.
