Imagine stumbling into some random rundown tavern, haphazardly falling onto a bar stool, and ordering yourself a double. As you prepare to drown your sorrows and forget your meaningless existence for a few short hours a quick movement in the far corner of the room catches your eye. You turn just as another tormented soul drops a handful of change into a dusty, cracked jukebox. After a few seconds the speakers began to crackle and Andre Ethierユs soulful voice sputters out "Oh sweet darling do you feel alright?" and instantly strikes a chord deep inside your tortured heart.

As the slightly more upbeat "Little Saddy" kicks in you began tapping your foot on the dirty floor and ask the anonymous drunk swaying in front of the jukebox what youユre listening to. He half slurs something about this guy from Canada and a band called The Deadly Snakes. Realizing thereユs little sense in attempting to pry any farther you instead turn your focus back to the fantastic music. Channelling Dylan and Waits, Ethierユs hybrid of bourbon-soaked folk, country, and rhythm and blues has the amazing ability to make a believer out of the most jaded individual. As he croons over guitar, ukulele, bass, drums, and a jangly piano, you begin to relate to Ethierユs ragged characters and suddenly your life doesnユt look all that bad.

Songs such as "Sinners", "Last Line", and "Honey Drips, Butter Runs" instantly begun favourites in the bar, while "Requiem For Man and Family" gets a couple of people up on the previously deserted dance floor for some substance-fuelled two-stepping. As Either and co break into "The Night" the barkeep asks everyone to raise their glass and toast the greatness of the track. Fittingly the album ends with a number entitled "Sweep Up After Me". Attempting to sing-a-long to the chorus, and no doubt making a total ass of yourself in the process, you realize that itユs probably time to pack it in.

As Eitherユs heartfelt vocals fade out you raise your glass, toast your fellow booze hounds and applaud all that is good in life. After slamming your drink and knocking over your empty glass you stagger off into the darkness humming the wondrous sounds that you just heard. An underground classic and the new-found soundtrack to your drunken exploits all rolled into one ミ what a great night.
